Sliema started taking shape after the end of the last century,
when wealthy Valletta residents started building Summer houses around the
Balluta area. Eventually, these magnificent mansions started becoming
permanent residences and Sliema started growing rapidly.
Situated in the popular seaside residential town of Sliema, The
Metropole Hotel, Malta is just 100 metres away from its famous seaside
promenade, which extends for quite a few miles from St. Julians where the
night life is lively, to Sliema harbour where the shopping is terrific.
All along there are several cafes, bars and restaurants as well as
excellent swimming clubs.
Our cheap and frequent local bus transport, gives easy accessibility to
practically anywhere on the Island. The closest bus-stop is situated only
2 mins. away from the Hotel's entrance. Buses to Valletta pass approx.
every 5/7 mins and there are many direct buses to places of interest which
pass along the promenade. |

Sliema Malta:
Description:
The Resort :Sliema and St Julians resort are Malta's main coastal resort
towns and a heartland for shopping, entertainment and café life. Sliema is a key
commercial and residential area with some of Malta's newest hotels and
apartments. Tower Road is its 5Km promenade, full of shops, restaurants, banks,
supermarkets, Internet cafes, and day cruise boats. The road continues north to
St. Julians and Paceville and southward towards the Strand Gzira, Ta Xbiex ,
Msida and Valletta . Sliema, once a fishing town, began to develop in the early
20th century as small resort for wealthier Valletta residents. Their elegant
villas and town houses line the quieter back streets. The sea front from Gzira
to St Julian's, which offers first stunning views across to Valletta and then
open horizons, is a popular meeting place and ideal for walkers and joggers. St
Julian's and Paceville are Malta's main nightlife areas. Picturesque St Julian's
Bay, still used by fishermen, is lined with bougainvillea-clad cafés and
restaurants.
